What Exactly Foil Stamping Is?
Foil stamping printing method is a unique printing process which combines heat, pressure, foil film and metal dies to offer a wide assortment of colours and finishes combinations. The foil film is available in rolls of various optical effects and colours but, the most appreciated are gold foil, silver foil, copper foil and holographic metallic foils. Along with these, the foils also come in solid colours in both matte and glossy finish.
In early times, foil stamping involved intensive labour hence, it was restricted to literary tiles and book covers only. In those times, it was done using custom engraved dies and hand-set lettering but, the evolution of modern hot foil stamping printing method in the late 1800s paved the ways of using this method in creating marvellous custom wedding invitations.
Materials Required For the Printing Wedding Cards
For designing perfect foiled wedding invitations, you need following things with you.
The Die: Die refers to metal plate having the reversed images quite similar to stamps. They are generally made of copper, brass or magnesium.
The Foil: Manufactured on film roll, Foil is made up of heat-activated adhesive, clear Mylar and pigment.
The Card: Finally you need the card on which you want to do the foil stamping.
The Process
There are three things that play a major part in crafting an awesome Hot Foil Stamping Wedding Invitations and they are pressure, heat and time.
For this you have to place the foil film between your card and heated metal die. The heat activated the adhesive and the die presses the foil on your card.
Due to pressure, the foil blends of the card and then it is released from the Mylar carrier on all the places where the image has pressed. The temperature has to be perfect otherwise the foil will either not stick properly or the foil may blister or bubble. You also need to keep a check on the time to assure that you get the perfect custom wedding invitations for your wedding.
The best part of the foil stamping method is that you do not limit yourself to metallic effects only. You can find dull, glossy, colourful, fluorescents, holographic and much more for your wedding invitations.
Benefits of Foil Stamping
Unlike lithography, thermography and letterpress, the foil stamping method does not use any kind of ink due to which the colour does not change according to the colour of paper used for printing. Foil stamping uses an opaque medium for printing making it unique and stunning. It can be used for a wide range of finishes ranging from matte, glossy, metallic, holographic and pearlescent.
